The choice to proceed with lasik eye surgery can be a difficult decision to make. My cousin was going through the worst nightmare in her life and needed to act fast in order to save her vision. Her eyesight was slowly deteriorating and she panicked at the thought that she could lose her eyesight. She was myopic and the contact lenses she was using were not helping her much, so she needed an alternative, and a strong one at that. The thought of life without vision was unbearable.

The Debate: LASIK Surgery Vs. Extended Wear Lenses
Submitted by administrator on Wed, 02/17/2010 - 18:00A new generation of extended wear soft contact lenses have been introduced that the FDA has approved for up to 30 days of continuous wear. Not everyone can tolerate 30-day extended wear lenses for a full month of continuous wear, just as some people cannot wear 7-day extended wear lenses safely and comfortably for a full week. Flexible wear may be a safe and comfortable alternative if you are unable to tolerate full-time continuous wear of extended wear lenses.

LASIK is an acronym for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, and is a surgery by which the shape of the cornea - the clear covering of the eye - is permanently altered to improve the quality of vision.

The Continuing Saga of RK, PRK, or LASIK: My Experience with One of These Eye Surgeries
Submitted by administrator on Mon, 02/08/2010 - 02:00Not long after RK, or radial keratotomy, came a new technique for shortening the focal length of the nearsighted eyeball. This was the long awaited PRK, photorefractive keratotomy. The procedure reshapes the cornea, in effect, shortens the focal length. A laser with low-heat UV radiation removes corneal material literally microscopic layers at a time. The procedure is robotic; the laser is pre-programmed, literally vaporizing a few molecules with each pulse from just the right place on the corneal surface.
Lasik Surgery: A Primer
Submitted by administrator on Mon, 01/25/2010 - 10:00LASIK is an eye surgery done to correct a patient's dependency on wearing contact lenses or eyeglasses. This surgery is most common in patients that have nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. There are a few different types of LASIK surgery to be performed. Which one is used depends on the patient and that particular patient's problem. The first step towards having this procedure done is to talk with your Ophthalmologist to see if you are a good candidate.
Lasik Side Effects
Submitted by administrator on Sat, 01/23/2010 - 22:00LASIK is a way to improve your eyesight, but it was also a serious surgery. Though extremely rare, you should be aware of the possibility of these side effects before choosing to have LASIK eye surgery. So many variables can be responsible for the side effects:
-The laser and the way it is calibrated.
-The conditions of the room (i.e. temperature and humidity).
-During surgery, having the cornea moistened will cause effects
-Your genetics and the way your eye responded to the healing.
How Long is the Healing Time After LASIK Eye Surgery?
Submitted by administrator on Fri, 01/15/2010 - 18:00If someone with limited vision is considering LASIK eye surgery and then it no doubt appears to be a miracle. Establish perfect vision without having to wear any glasses or abusive contexts. However, LASIK is still a surgery, and carries with it many risks, and chances of complications. You will have to follow strict instructions to recuperate your vision after LASIK.
The Best Way to Prepare for Your Recovery After LASIK Surgery
Submitted by administrator on Sun, 01/10/2010 - 22:00Surprisingly, the whole of LASIK procedures only have small percentage of side effects. The whole procedure goes over relatively fast, fairly relaxing, and uneventful. As with most surgeries, you'll have to take a couple of days off to recuperate from LASIK. However, the recuperating period is fairly short after LASIK eye surgery will only last from a couple of days to a week.
Federal Health Officials Reconsider LASIK Warnings
Submitted by administrator on Thu, 01/07/2010 - 10:00"Lay your head back." The doctor said as he dripped some numbing drops into my eye. Then it was time for the injection. The needle looked about 6 inches long as it came towards my eye. He told me to look up as far as I could and then slowly began to push the needle in right below my right eye. I could feel pressure as the burning liquid went in and then everything went black for a few minutes. I wasn't sure if I was going to get my sight back or not. But the procedure was necessary to fix a problem with my retina so I wouldn't go blind.
