PRK Eye Surgery: Ten Days After the Surgery and Beyond

The next couple days after the immediate recovery from PRK eye surgery were amazing and fantastic! Having only seen with the aid of glasses since the age of eight, to wake up in the morning and know where I was, what time of day it was and if my fiancé was at home or in the gym was completely and unexpectedly incredible.

The Continuing Saga of RK, PRK, or LASIK: My Experience with One of These Eye Surgeries

Not long after RK, or radial keratotomy, came a new technique for shortening the focal length of the nearsighted eyeball. This was the long awaited PRK, photorefractive keratotomy. The procedure reshapes the cornea, in effect, shortens the focal length. A laser with low-heat UV radiation removes corneal material literally microscopic layers at a time. The procedure is robotic; the laser is pre-programmed, literally vaporizing a few molecules with each pulse from just the right place on the corneal surface.

PRK Eye Surgery Part I: Before the Surgery

I've had glasses ever since I was eight years old, and at that time, the doctor said we had waited too long before getting them. So when my mom suggested that she pay for LASIK surgery for my graduation present, I was ecstatic! To be able to see my toes without the aid of glasses seemed too good to be true. We then made an appointment with the most respected eye surgeon in town, because I'm not trusting my vision with just anyone. He had performed her LASIK eye surgery ten years ago and she is now at 20/20 in one eye and 20/15 in the other.

Is Lasik Surgery for You?

Most people know of at least one family member or acquaintance who has undergone Lasik surgery. They're the eager people telling everyone they come in contact with that the procedure is fantastic and everyone should do it.

The procedure is cutting edge and can make it possible to use glasses or contacts less often. It also carries serious risks, including blindness. Some people are not candidates for the procedure.

PRK Eye Surgery: The Days After the Eye Surgery

After my PRK eye surgery on Tuesday, my mother drove me home. I didn't feel much of anything at this point. The valium that I had taken, mixed with the high levels of adrenaline my body had used, made me very relaxed and exhausted. So the painkiller and the sleeping pill that I was prescribed to take felt a little unnecessary. And after taping the eye shields onto my face (a rather unattractive look), they definitely did make me fall asleep quickly and deeply. The rest of the day after my eye surgery then was uneventful, painless and spent sleeping.

RK, PRK, or LASIK: My Experience with One of These Eye Surgeries

Eyeglasses were for me when I was ten. Every year thereafter, my father would take me to New York City, where a pair of eye glasses were cheaper than any in New Jersey. And, the frames were fashionable. (Yes, I worried about that when I was ten.) Then, for at least five more years, we would go again annually for another pair with a stronger prescription. My eyes became more nearsighted as I advanced through my teenage years.

Lasik Cost: Is it Worth It?

Lasik Cost in the Front Range communities of Denver, Aurora, Loveland and other areas are not the highest in the country. That's the good news.

The not-so-good news is that most insurers consider it to be an elective cosmetic procedure and therefore will not normally cover lasik cost. However, most lasik providers in the Denver Colorado metro region offer generous financing that is often interest-free and can be arranged to fit virtually any budget.

To most people who have a need for them, wearing glasses or contacts is both tiring and bothersome. The active adult that enjoys outdoor sports and a busy lifestyle does not want to worry about glasses or contacts. Lasik surgery is a very safe option for the adult who has poor vision, but does not enjoy wearing glasses.

LASIK Surgery -- is it Worth the Risk?

LASIK is one of the best types of corrective eye surgery. The term LASIK stands for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis. This procedure can permanently reshape the cornea, which is the clear covering of the front of the eye with the help of a laser. LASIK is performed on millions of people every year. There are a wide variety of different optical lasers. This procedure can be used to correct near and far sightedness as well as astigmatism.

Implantable Contact Lenses - Do They Work for People Who Can't Have LASIK Surgery?

Implantable contact lenses are a permanent solution for patients who suffer from a variety of vision problems. Vision correction is a life changing procedure for patients who depend on eyeglasses and disposable contacts in order to function every day. LASIK surgery is often the first choice for vision correction but sometimes an eye doctor may determine that implantable contact lenses are the best choice.
